Lisa Maxson celebrated the 10th anniversary of her double cord blood transplant on 15 December 2021.  Her medical journey began in August 2011 when she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). At the time, Lisa was 28 years old and had three children with her husband Tom, aged 16 months, 3 years and 5 years. Due to the aggressive nature of AML, Lisa was immediately put on the list for a stem cell transplant. But surprisingly, none of the registered bone marrow donors were compatible. Her oncology team then searched public banks for umbilical cord blood units and found two units that were perfect for transplant. Thanks to her double cord blood transplant, Lisa can now see her children grow up and live their lives.
